ABOUT HEATHER CHLUP

Heather Chlup, owner of Heather Chlup Educational Advocacy LLC, began her career as an elementary school teacher in Australia, where she was born and raised, and has dedicated herself over the past twenty five years to supporting children to become the best version of themselves.  Heather is a veteran educator, having held teaching positions in both public and private schools and colleges in Australia, The United Kingdom, and the United States, to which she migrated in 2008.  After her oldest child was diagnosed with dyslexia at the age of 7, Heather took it upon herself to gain certification in the Orton-Gillingham approach after her son failed to qualify for special education services in his public school district, and has been a dyslexia interventionist in private practice for the past eight years.  Thanks to Heather’s tireless advocacy and remediation efforts for his dyslexia, her oldest son is now a high school freshman taking Honors English and other higher level classes, and even though he still has dyslexia, it doesn’t define him.

When Heather’s second son was born, she quickly realized that his complex needs would require strong advocacy in the school district to obtain for him a Free and Appropriate Education (FAPE).  Heather has now spent over a decade successfully advocating for her own children, and now countless other local families who came to her seeking advice and support in their own special education journeys.  Once described by a special education attorney as an extraordinary advocate for her children, Heather realized that she had a gift and a passion for educational advocacy and helping other families to obtain the services that their children need and deserve.

In 2023, Heather Chlup Educational Advocacy LLC was established, and Heather’s years of experience in a volunteer support role have helped her turn her dream of starting her own advocacy business into a reality.  A strong believer in ongoing professional growth and development, Heather attended annual conferences with the Council of Parent Attorneys and Advocates in 2023 (San Diego) and 2024 (Atlanta), and has successfully completed the COPAA Seat 1.0 Advocacy Training Course.  Heather is currently enrolled in training programs with the National Association of Special Education Teachers (NASET), in addition to having served in voluntary roles with Decoding Dyslexia GA and International Dyslexia Association.  In June 2024, Heather presented at a professional development workshop for The Village Tutors, Westmont, IL on understanding the special education system, and has more speaking engagements and parent workshops planned in the near future.

Heather Chlup is here to partner with you in getting the support you need to ensure that your child receives a Free and Appropriate Education (FAPE).  We invite you to get in touch with us and see how we can be of support to your family.
